Police launch picture of man needed after scorching espresso poured on child

A nine-month-old baby had to undergo surgery after a stranger poured a scalding hot drink on him – as police release an image of a man wanted in relation to the incident.

The baby was at a family picnic at Hanlon Park in Coorparoo in Brisbane‘s south when an unknown man approached the group at about midday on Tuesday.

The stranger poured a hot liquid believed to be coffee onto the nine-month-old before fleeing the scene.

The infant was rushed to the Queensland Children’s Hospital with burns to his chest and face and has since undergone surgery. 

The baby’s family told media they’re traumatised and heartbroken by the incident. 

On Wednesday, police released a CCTV image of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries into the assault.

The man is seen running from the public park shortly after the incident occurred. 

He is described as 30 to 40-years-old, of a proportionate build, with tanned skin.

He was wearing a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.
