Pontins vacation camp ‘left to rot’ as determined plea revamped ‘horrendous’ pics
A beloved holiday camp that has been a treasure trove of “happy memories” for countless families has been tragically “left to rot”. The once-bustling Pontins site in Prestatyn now lies “overgrown” and forgotten, much to the dismay of former guests, after shutting its doors unexpectedly last year.
Snaps taken by a nostalgic visitor, who had the good fortune to experience numerous family getaways at the resort, reveal its current sorry state. The park, under the ownership of Britannia Hotels, ceased operations in November 2023, leaving behind a legacy of joy now overshadowed by neglect.
The “horrendous” condition of the park has triggered a wave of indignation, with calls for the proprietors to “do the right thing”. A movement is gaining momentum, pressing the company, which also shuttered its Camber Sands and Southport locations, to either breathe new life into the site or pass it on to someone who will.

Amy, hailing from Bangor, took a trip down memory lane this weekend, visiting the derelict site while staying at the neighbouring Robin Hood camp.

Speaking to North Wales Live, she expressed her heartache: “It was just somewhere that holds so many happy memories for myself and so many other families and to just see it getting left to rot and over grow is horrendous. I just hope another holiday camp takes over and Britannia do the right thing.”
She reminisced about her family’s long-standing connection to the site, saying: “My family have been coming since my mam was young and then myself as a child and most recently my own children. The site has so much potential to be re-done up and be used again for more families to be lucky enough to make memories like we did.”

Reacting to the images shared on Facebook, one nostalgic holidaymaker lamented: “Miss this place. Feel sad that so many families went because it was good and cheap. Great entertainment. Close to the beach . Many will not be able to afford to get a holiday at all now.”
Another chimed in: “We visited the beach nearby the other day and we had lovely holidays here. It’s such a waste I think and looks terrible now.”

The Mirror reports that Britannia has been asked about their plans for the site but have yet to disclose any details.
