Champions League draw as Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City and Aston Villa be taught destiny
Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Celtic and Aston Villa have discovered their Champions League opponents.
It’s a new era in Europe – gone is the group stage, replaced by one large group under the new ‘Swiss system’. Instead, teams have earned their spot at European football’s top table will play eight games – two at home and two on the continent.
Each team will play two teams from each pot (one to four) with a maximum of two from the same nation. Liverpool and City were seeded in Pot 1 thanks to their strong UEFA co-efficient rankings.

All five British teams, including Celtic who were in pot three, will kick off their campaigns on Matchday 1 – between 17–19 September 2024 – as they look to finish in the top eight of the new league format.

Teams who finish in the top eight of the new league will qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams ranked ninth through to 24th, must face each other in a knockout play-off round to join the top eight in the round of 16. Teams from position’s 25 through to 36 are eliminated.
