Girl, 5, dies after highway crash that noticed automotive engulfed in flames

A five-year-old girl has died following a vehicle collision near Bristol.

Four people were taken to hospital, one of whom was in a serious condition following the single-vehicle collision in Bishport Avenue, Hartcliffe on Wednesday August 14, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Police, fire and ambulance services attended the incident in which the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

On Thursday, police confirmed that the girl died this week from her injuries following the incident.

One eyewitness told BristolLive that 11 police vehicles, three fire engines and paramedics arrived on the scene. 

The road was closed following the collision, which occurred at between 8 and 8.30pm 

The child’s family are aware and are being offered support by a specially trained officer, the force added.

Another witness to the crash said they saw a ‘string of fire’ behind the vehicle, suggesting that its tyres had caught fire. 

Inquiries are ongoing and police have renewed their appeal for witnesses and anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage to come forward.
