Deadline Day slammed by Premier League membership fan who name it ‘simply Friday’

Tottenham fans on social media are calling transfer deadline day ‘just Friday’ after reports emerged claiming the club had concluded their summer business.

Ange Postecoglu’s side drew their opening game of the Premier League season 1-1 with Leicester City but then followed that up with a resounding 4-0 win over Everton last week. This summer, Spurs have spent big in the transfer market.

They forked out £65m on striker Dominic Solanke, as well as another £30m on talented midfielder Archie Gray. Wilson Odobert cost them £25m, which could rise due to add-ons, while Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall cost them a reported £8m. Combined, that puts Spurs’ transfer spending at £128m.

They have managed to shift on some players, with Oliver Skipp, Emerson Royal, Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott all having left this summer. Their exits have seen Spurs rake in just shy of £50m.

However, Spurs do have to manage featuring in the Europa League this season, which could test the depth of their squad – and damage their top four hopes. And some supporters on social media are not happy the club are reportedly done in the transfer market, with the window set to slam shut come 11pm on Friday night.

“This is the reason we will never be a top club,” said one fan replying to a report from Football.London’s Alasdair Gold who suggested Spurs were done dealing this summer.

They continued: “They always do just enough to say they have spent money, most of the time on overrated overpriced players but that’s another issue in itself When will we ever push the boat and show some proper ambition.”

A second said: “It’s like saying, “Water is wet,” but Levy’s Tottenham, one of the world’s richest clubs, is not interested in a successful football team, a striker from Bournemouth and x2 18 year olds transfer window tells you that…”

A third said: “Deadline day? It’s just a Friday.” A fourth said: “Squad is gonna be dangerously light at the back. And a fifth commented: “As always, always leaving us a bit short. Typical Levy.”
