Brits face 38C autumn heatwaves in September as it’s dubbed ‘sweat-tember’
Britain could be hit by a heatwave next month according to forecasters.
Despite it being August, temperatures are still in the high 20s and experts reckon the mercury could soar to 38C next month. Bookies Labrokes have given 3/1 odds for next month to be be hottest ever September in the UK – surpassing the previous joint record of 15.2C recorded last year and in 2006.
And UK weather experts have predicted that this September could bring more warmer weather. Jim Dale, of British Weather Services, said he is confident Brits should expect ”pleasant” weather next month with temperatures of up to 25C.

It’s make the late summer month a ‘sweat-tember’ for kids heading back to school in their stuffy blazers and uniforms. Jim also said the worsening affects of climate change has made weather more unpredictable so it isn’t out of the question that there could be a September heatwave in the UK with temperatures of up to 38C.
He said hot weather is September is now the ”fashion” in summer months, adding: ”As far as climate change is concerned, we have to watch for unusual events. We could see record breaking temperatures in September. Climate change gives the potential to deliver something we do not normally experience. I do not think we will be getting our warm woolies out just yet.”
Jim believes that warm weather in September is particularly overdue in the north of England and Scotland as the countries have only experience cool and wet temperatures over the summer.
He said: ”It is more likely than not as this has become the fashion in summer months, and it is long overdue in the north.”
He also reckons the UK could have an Indian summer (unseasonably warm, dry Autumn weather) because of the warmer weather – and US storm season, which starts in October, bringing low pressure to Britain.
Alex Apati, a Ladbrokes spokesperson agreed, saying “An Indian summer looks to be on the cards, and next month may well enter the record books as a result, if the latest odds are anything to go by.”
The Met Office has predicted that there could be ”more widely settled’ weather and ”above average temperatures” between September 1 and 10.
In a statement the Met Office said; “High pressure will tend to be located either over or close to the UK through much of this period, leading to a more widely settled period of weather for most, with some cool nights, but near or slightly above average temperatures by day.
“That said, weak frontal systems could still provide some cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain at times, this most likely in northwestern areas, and there is a chance of some heavy thundery showers and more humid conditions in the south too. The mostly settled conditions are expected to then win out, with high pressure building in from the southwest once more, with the chance of seeing a more widely showery spell towards the end of this period considered low.”
