Labour’s smoking ban might prolong to vaping indoors

Sir Keir Starmer is considering banning vaping in indoor public spaces as part of a crackdown on nicotine products.

MPs and charities have reportedly pushed the government to curtail the places where people can vape, according to Whitehall sources.

It comes after it was revealed that fruit and dessert-flavoured vapes are being dished out by council and NHS stop-smoking services.

Alongside the proposed smoking plans, the Independent reports that a ban on vaping indoors in public places is also being looked into, as part of a range of policies surrounding vaping in the bill.

The Prime Minister’s admission that he is considering a ban on outdoor smoking came after leaked documents revealed Brits could be barred from lighting up in beer gardens or outside stadiums.

The plans revealed the Government was proposing to ban smoking in a bid to improve public health.

The indoor smoking ban, which was introduced under the previous Labour government in 2007, could be extended to cover other locations.

Asked about the proposals, the Prime Minister said: ‘My starting point on this is to remind everybody that over 80,000 people lose their lives every year because of smoking.

‘That is a preventable death, it’s a huge burden on the NHS and, of course, it is a burden on the taxpayer.

‘So, yes, we are going to take decisions in this space, more details will be revealed.

‘But this is a preventable series of deaths and we’ve got to take action to reduce the burden on the NHS and the taxpayer.’

Earlier this week, millennials hit out at plans to ban outdoor smoking – even if they’ve never touched a cigarettes themselves.

The masses spoke out after hearing nightclub smoking areas could soon be a distant memory, and looked back on past times with a smile.

Many hailed the designated areas as a spot where lifelong friendships began and others said it was there that they caught the eye of the love of their life.

They say memories of nightclub smoking areas are something they hold dear, but the busy spots could soon be a thing of the past.
