People are mocking our residence for wanting ‘cheesy’ however that is our style!

A couple who received an onslaught of mockery online after putting their ‘tacky’ home on the market have hit back at critics.

The semi-detached home in Portsmouth, Hampshire, was listed for £365,000 last month and from the outside appears a well maintained property with a palm tree at the front and green tiling.

But pictures of the interior reveal an eye-popping explosion of pinks and gold – finished off with black furnishings throughout the house.

The couple, who did not wish to be identified or interviewed, said they have been taken aback by the backlash – but stuck to their guns in pointing how they were free to decorate their own home in whatever way they chose.

Responding to the criticism, they told MailOnline: ‘We don’t understand the fuss, the interiors are coming with us. They don’t come with the house.’

The husband went on: ‘Blokes up in Scotland are having a go. It’s crazy. People are mocking the interiors but it is both of our tastes.

‘It’s better than the silver and grey that most people get nowadays. We are private people, we don’t want this attention.’

The couple, who are moving to another home outside Portsmouth, do not anticipate their quirky decorating of the interiors will make it hard to sell their property.

The property is being sold by Mann estate agents, who have been approached by MailOnline for comment.

The purple wall-papered living room boasts pink and violet velvet seating while gold candelabras and cherubims cling to walls next to purple drapes.

Carrying on through the house you find the kitchen with almost entirely black fittings but for a pure gold Belfast sink, gold brick effect on the wall and gold silk-effect sheets hanging from the ceiling.

LED lighting lines the countertops that are finished with black and grey granite surfaces.

The kitchen’s black granite effect floors are detailed with gold streaks while the oven has a sublime frame-effect decal in its glass through which to picture your food as it cooks.

Ancient Roman and Greek themes can also be found in the property.

These are accentuated with faux busts and ornaments dotted around the conservatory and lion head-topped Romanesque columns standing tall over brown leather seats.

A black and gold tassled lamp also features.

The couple’s appreciation for Roman and Grecian art continues into the good sized garden where naked statues, friezes and a bird bath can be found dotted around the patio.

Asian influences are picked up in Buddha and Samurai statues which stand guard alongside two Meru towers that surround a love seat.

Wagon wheels hang from the garden gates while a vine crawls up the conservatory, adding to the other worldly feel to the property.

The room is finished off with lace drapes and table cloth to match, an imposing walnut display cabinet and crown-topped silver candle holders.

And there is more to be found upstairs, too, with both bedrooms boasting gold and blue, and red and wood themed sleeping chambers respectively.

The master bedroom showcases a four poster wooden bed complete with drapes and a painting behind the headboard – a Gucci.

And who could forget the bulldog loo roll holder and unusual corner-positioned toilet in both bathrooms, which are also finished in black.

After being listed on RightMove, the house went viral – with comments lambasting the couple’s taste – although they were quick to point out that they decorated the home just the way they like it.

One said: “It’s like Barbara Cartland had a house share with a division 1 footballer”

While another mocked: “This is what happens when international supervillains lose their job and their yacht and have to settle in suburbia.”

Others took aim at the garish colours joking “Interiors by Stevie Wonder.”

Another quipped: “That’s the most glorious semi I’ve ever seen and ive seen a few in my time oooooooohhh matron!”

But some were less critical and instead defended the couple’s taste as ‘authentic’.

One person added: ‘Even if not to your taste, it’s an incredible achievement’.

Another chimed: ‘I love that someone made their own personal palace like this. Sure, it’s not to everyone’s taste, but it’s certainly kinda [sic] special.

‘My living room has vintage joysticks and Rubik’s cubes on display and is laid out to maximise gaming, movies and stuff I love.

‘To hell with norms; make your spaces authentic!’
