Police arrest 77-year-old man for homicide after lady present in home

A 77-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Cheltenham in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to reports that a woman had been ‘seriously injured’ at a property on Fairfield Road around 3.30am on Saturday.

The 66-year-old was declared dead at the scene, and Gloucestershire Police soon reported that they had arrested a 77-year-old man, who remains in custody.

A scene guard remained in place around the home on a quaint road in the holiday spa town late this morning, with police still stationed at the address as of 10am.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anybody with information to come forward.

No further information was provided about the identity of the man or the woman, or whether they were known to each other.

The man was only identified as a 77-year-old from Cheltenham.

Officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team have already started their probe into what happened, and are looking to compile evidence.
