Deadline Day signing ‘cried at medical earlier than vanishing with no hint’
Fulham’s search for a Deadline Day signing took a wild turn after the winger they wanted to seal a deal for mysteriously ‘disappeared’.
In a bizarre twist of events, Lyon’s young star Ernest Nuamah reportedly broke down in tears during his medical at Fulham on the Premier League’s Transfer Deadline Day and then “vanished”. Despite being linked with a last-minute £15million move to the Cottagers, the deal fell through unexpectedly.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, “new issues” cropped up, as French publication L’Equipe suggests that Nuamah himself backed out at the eleventh hour, having been emotional throughout the day. The 20-year-old winger was suddenly untraceable, leaving even his agent clueless about his location.

The player’s representative is quoted as saying Nuamah “loves Lyon”, hinting that he never wanted to leave the French powerhouse. Lyon’s owner John Textor has reportedly apologised for the situation, reassuring Nuamah that he remains an integral part of the team.
The Ligue 1 outfit are yet to find a replacement for the young talent, who initially joined Lyon on loan from Belgian side RWD Molenbeek last season, due to their shared ownership. Lyon made the move permanent in July 2024.
Nuamah netted three times in 33 games last season. He was heavily linked with a switch to Everton this summer, even reportedly agreeing terms with the Toffees, only for Fulham to swoop in and snatch the deal at the last minute, reports the Mirror.
He has featured twice this season and is tipped to be included in their upcoming matches, including their Ligue 1 trip to Lens which follows the international break. Fulham managed to seal a deal for Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal instead.
