‘Gunman’ who fled £1.5m nation residence after armed siege arrested

An alleged gunman who managed to escape from a £1.5million country home in Norfolk while it was under siege by armed police has been caught 140 miles away.

Thomas Daniels-Poulis, 30, was arrested by West Midlands Police on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence at 7.30pm on Thursday.

A woman in her 50s has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and both will be returned to Norfolk for questioning.

Police launched a manhunt after Daniels-Poulis allegedly fled from an 18th century property in Marsham following a day-long stand-off with police, trained negotiators and dogs.

Officers were called to the Grade-II listed home at around 7.15pm on Tuesday following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

There were also concerns for the safety of a man living there.

Daniels-Poulis was seen inside the house holding a firearm and behaving in a threatening manner, police have said.

More police units were called to the scene, including armed officers, trained negotiators, police drones and dogs – as well as several ambulances.

Police finally entered the house and searched it shortly before 6pm on Wednesday but could find no trace of Daniels-Poulis.

However, they did find two air rifles and a crossbow.

The property where the incident took place is located down a long drive just off the A140, between Aylsham and Norwich.

It is surrounded by a number of outbuildings and backs on to open farmland.

Locals in the village have spoken of their shock at the unfolding events.

One said: ‘We heard quite a lot of shouting. It was all very unnerving.’

Police say no-one was injured in the incident and that they did not want to enter the property until they could do so safely.

Daniels-Poulis, from Marsham, was described as white, 6ft tall and with dark brown hair by police.
