A body has been found off the Scottish coast after the wife of rugby legend Scott Hastings disappeared while swimming.

Jenny Hastings vanished off Wardie Bay, Edinburgh on Tuesday, September 3. She had gone wild swimming at the beach around 2.45pm. She was reported missing when she didn’t return, sparking a huge emergency response

Police, ambulance and coastguard crews trawled the the Firth of Forth estuary on the hunt for the missing 60-year-old, however it was called off on Tuesday night.

Despite this, the body of a woman was recovered in the Hound Point area of Queensferry, near Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon.

The body has yet to be formally identified, however police said Mrs Hasting’s family have been informed, The Sun reported.

It seems the recovery of the body might confirm what the Hastings family feared.

Police were treating Mrs Hasting’s disappearance as a “high-risk missing persons case”. Following her disappearance, her family said she was presumed dead.

In an earlier statement, the Hastings family said they were “absolutely heartbroken” and that Mrs Hastings “struggled with her mental health” and “ultimately was unable to cope on this occasion”.

They said: “It appears that she wished to end her suffering in what was a regular and healing place for her.

“The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken. We miss our Jenny.

“She leaves a gaping hole in all our hearts and hope that she is returned to us safely so that we can celebrate her remarkable life.”

Previously, Jenny opened up about her struggles with depression, and that she had tried to take her life in 2014. She went missing for more than 24 hours a few years later.

Scott and Jenny were ambassadors for the Support in Mind Scotland charity, and helps others with their mental health battles.

Tributes laid near Jenny’s last known location read “R.I.P Jenny, from the community of Wardieburn. Forever In Our Hearts” alongside a bouquet of sunflowers.
