Britain braced for Arctic shiver with snow, frost and freezing temperatures
Britain will go from floods to freeze as a four-day Arctic shiver from Greenland brings snow, frost and near freezing temperatures in a shock early taste of winter.
Another three inches of rain is due this week with more flood risks after weekend thunderstorms and washouts.
Temperatures are set to plunge from Wednesday until Saturday as a 700-mile wide polar air mass blows in.The Met Office warned of snow flurries in Scotland amid cold air, with daytime highs of just 12C in northern parts and nights as low as 2C.

Even those in the south will be reaching for the jackets and coats with chilly daytime maxes as low as 14C, and 5C nights.
A Met Office forecaster said: “It is expected to turn very cool, with winds from a northwesterly direction.
“This will bring fairly frequent showers to the north, which could be of sleet or snow on the highest mountain tops.”
The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Even in the south, daytime temperatures will be dipping below the average and in the north it looks distinctly chilly for the first half of September.
“Cold nights are likely too, with a risk of ground frost and possibly even air frost in the north.”
The Met Office also warned that there will be more rain bursts for many today (MON) and tomorrow (tues).
Northern parts are forecasters to see showers through the week, with western parts of the country seeing the most frequent rain into the weekend.
This week is due two inches more rain in the west, with three inches in North Wales and an inch in the east.
