Inside Liam Gallagher’s Downton Abbey Cotswolds bolthole

Liam Gallagher has found a true oasis to escape the furore surrounding his comeback tour – this magnificent Downton Abbey-style country mansion he’s renting out for £19,000-a-month.

The rocker famous for his hell-raising antics has been quietly preparing for the much-hyped Oasis reunion in the spectacular Cotswolds bolthole that was formerly owned by a baron.

Some might say the castle-like gothic Manor House is half the world away from the cramped council house in a gritty part of Manchester where the singer grew up and shared a bedroom with older brother Noel.

The feuding siblings would certainly not be getting under each other’s feet in the tranquil surroundings of the grand Grade II-listed Victorian pile near Stroud in Gloucestershire.

The 16,000 square foot property has 11 bedrooms including a ‘principal suite’ on the first floor featuring a grand bedroom, central bathroom and fully fitted dressing room.

In all, there are 10 bathrooms in the sprawling mansion house which is set in 2.5 acres of grounds encompassing sweeping terraces as well as lawns and wooded areas.

Liam, 51, and fiancée Debbie Gwyther, who also acts as his manager, moved into the rented manor four months ago.

The house came fully-furnished and went on the market with a minimum rental period of one year.

The property was built in 1854 and was the baronial seat originally belonging to Sir Samuel Stephens Marlin, a cloth manufacturer and local politician.

It passed through the baronial line for a century and enjoyed Royal patronage when Queen Mary – the widow of King George V and grandmother of the late Queen Elizabeth II – dropped in for tea.

Local news reports documented the visit and Queen Mary spent several hours at the estate, admiring the views and exploring the house, before having her photo taken in the Gothic-arched porch.

The house was later sold and divided up into apartments before falling into a state of disrepair.

Its current owner bought the property at auction in 2016 then spent eight years restoring it with impressive modern updates – making it the perfect refuge for a multi-millionaire pop star.

There’s a gym and sauna and even a meditation room dedicated to calm, silence and tranquility – which perhaps may help its residents find peace away from the noisy backlash surrounding ‘extortionate’ ticket prices for Oasis’ upcoming tour.

There’s also a home cinema and an extensive wine cellar as well as a large modern kitchen with circular island and curved units.

The manor house’s original grand features include a billiard room and huge ballroom with views stretching out to the River Severn and Black Mountains.

A double-height corridor features an original ornate stained-glass ceiling and carved stone staircase.

Liam and Debbie, 40, and have been spotted in the area walking their rescue dog Buttons.

Locals say Liam has tried his best to keep a low profile but is said to ‘stick out like a sore thumb’ strolling around wearing a black anorak with the hood up and goggles attached.

He has made one notable addition since moving into the property – putting up a set of kids’ goalposts in the back garden.

There have even been rumours locally that brother Noel, 57, has visited and his teenage sons Donovan, 16, and Sonny, 14 have joined in family kickabouts in the garden.

The brothers will certainly have had much to talk about in recent weeks as they put together plans for next year’s comeback gigs which will see the band play together on stage for the first time in 16 years.

A source told MailOnline: ‘The scenery down in Stroud is stunning. Liam’s new place is perched on the end of the Cotswolds escarpment with unbroken views down to the Severn Estuary and Black Mountains of Wales.

‘He and Debbie love the countryside after spending much of their adult lives in London.

‘The new house is enormous so there is enough room for friends and family to stay over and not to be under each other’s feet.

‘Liam doesn’t tend to go out very much socially, just an early morning run or walk with his dog Buttons, so they have been making their own fun at home.’

Liam may also feel at home among the A-list celebrities who have bought second homes in the area.

Neighbours include 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan and Alex James of former Brit Pop rivals Blur while David and Victoria Beckham, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden also have properties in the area.

Fellow pop star Taylor Swift rented a £3,000-a-night property nearby during her recent sell-out tour.

At the posher end of the scale Princess Anne and daughter Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall also live nearby at Gatcombe Park.

Liam’s 11-bedroomed house spread over 16,000-square-feet is owned by property entrepreneur Rebekah Seddon-Wickens, bought it at auction in 2016 – and spent more than seven years overhauling the property and returning it to a grand single-family home.

‘I have always had a great interest in historic buildings and have worked on several renovations over the years, however nothing on the scale of Stanley Park,” Seddon-Wickens said in a statement. ‘When first I spotted it for sale though I knew I had to go for it.’

When it went on the rental market upmarket estate agents Savills wrote: ‘It boasts original features, including ornate plasterwork, hardwood floors and mullion windows, whilst also showcasing the best of modern living with a cinema room, gym and sauna.

‘The family home has entertained many visitors over the years, including Queen Mary in 1941 when she was invited for afternoon tea by the lady of the manor, Beatrice Marling.

‘Local news stations documented the visit, highlighting that the Queen spent several hours at the estate, admiring the views and exploring the house, before having her photo taken with Lady Marling in the Gothic-arched porch.

‘Upon entering the house you’re met with an entrance hall that features an original fireplace and carved wooden surround. Leading on from the hallway is a library, sitting room, billiard room and drawing room, but the star of the show is the ballroom which boasts impressive views of the River Severn and Black Mountains.

‘The first floor has a circular, flowing design. The principal suite features a grand bedroom, central bathroom and fully fitted dressing room. There are another four large bedrooms on this floor and three with en-suites which all offer different views of the lush countryside.

‘Meanwhile, the top floor of the house is ideal for guests as it comprises a further six double bedrooms, with four containing en-suites. There is also a family bathroom to complete the amenities of this floor.

‘The lower ground floor of the property contains the kitchen, which boasts high-end appliances as well as plenty of storage.

‘The room also features plenty of natural light and has been cleverly designed to be on the same level as the garden, inviting the outdoors into the family space.

‘The manor and surrounding land are located in a tranquil village on the Western edge of the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. For those looking for a slower pace of life, the area provides ample opportunities for walking, cycling, and horse riding.

‘Nearby Stroud offers a mix of high street and local retailers, as well as a great selection of restaurants, cafes, bars, and a well-known farmers market.’
