Arsenal followers chunk their nails as Martin Odegaard hobbles off pitch in Norway

Arsenal are biting their nails over the severity of Martin Odegaard’s injury after their skipper was subbed off during international duty.

Odegaard seemed to have twisted his ankle in their UEFA Nations League clash against Austria in Oslo. The Gunners’ midfield maestro needed attention from Norway’s medical squad before he limped off, assisted by Manchester City ace Erling Haaland.

The 25-year-old appeared to be in pain as he hobbled off and was replaced by manager Stale Solbakken, reports the Express.

It’s not yet clear how serious it is but Odegaard’s injury will undoubtedly raise some questions as to whether he should have been playing after the midfielder suffered a blow to his ankle in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brighton last weekend. He was substituted in the 73rd minute.

Nevertheless he reported for international duty with Norway after seeming to have recovered.

Fans were quick to respond to the injury news on X, with one writing: “damn, that’s sucks for arsenal, he’ll def be out for a while with that one”, as another said: “It’s his fault for playing when he’s not 100% fit.”

A third chimed in: “Oh my god. We are well and truly finished. This midfield of Jorginho partey + whoever is going to get dominated. This could get bad”.

It comes after Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber found himself in a heated exchange with ex-Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst during international duty with the Netherlands.

Both players came off the bench in Ronald Koeman’s 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League on Saturday, with another match against Germany scheduled for Tuesday in Amsterdam.

However, tensions flared during a training session ahead of the game, with Timber tackling United’s Weghorst, who immediately fell and complained about the challenge. The two then exchanged words, leading to Koeman stepping in to calm things down. Read the full story here.
