City star carried off in tears after horror harm throughout Nations League conflict

Manchester City’s Nathan Ake was seen being stretchered off the pitch, visibly upset, during the Netherlands’ UEFA Nations League match against Germany.

Ake was replaced by Jurrien Timber just before half-time due to what seemed to be a hamstring injury. His team-mate Cody Gakpo was spotted signalling for medical assistance when it became apparent that Ake couldn’t carry on.

The City star is the latest Premier League player to sustain an injury during the September international break. Arsenal are also concerned about two of their players, Italy’s Riccardo Calafiori and Norway’s Martin Odegaard.

Pep Guardiola and his team will now anxiously await news on the severity of Ake’s injury. City’s next Premier League game is against Brentford on Saturday, followed by a clash with Arsenal on September 22.

In the match against Germany, the Netherlands scored first thanks to Tijani Reinders, but Deniz Undav equalised. Joshua Kimmich then put the Germans ahead in stoppage time of the first half, only for Denzel Dumfries to level the score for Ronald Koeman’s side, reports the Mirror.

Undav’s goal was the result of a blunder from another Premier League defender, Matthijs de Ligt, who lost possession leading to a German attack. The Manchester United centre-back was substituted at half-time, with Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke stepping in.

De Ligt dropped a clanger for the second time in a row, but the Dutch still managed to secure victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Speaking candidly about his blunder, De Ligt admitted, “I should have done better at their second goal, and I know that.

He added: “I don’t really know what happened.. I should have cleared the ball but I kept having doubts during the play. It’s just f****d.”
