The woman who designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress has been named the creative director of Givenchy.

Sarah Burton will take the role at the LVMH-owned fashion house after stepping down from Alexander McQueen last year.

Burton started her career at fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s eponymous label in 1997 and worked her way up.

She became creative director in February 2010 following McQueen’s death.

Aside from royalty, singer Lady Gaga and actress Cate Blanchett are also fans of Burton’s designs.

She said: ‘It is a great honour to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs.’

Givenchy, which is known for its luxury handbags and perfume, has been part of the LVMH £256billion empire since 1988. Burton’s first show is scheduled for March of next year.
