A man who saved a 14-year-old girl from a paedophile was last week handed a prison sentence of up to ten years for “kidnapping” the abuser.

The jail time has sparked outrage because it’s a similar length to that of the grim molester, who received a sentence of 10 to 14 years in June.

Ott, who was dating the girl’s mother, was contacted by the distressed parent and arrived at the house in Wyoming, US, with a 35-year-old friend. The pair confronted the abuser and a fight broke out, during which the teenager threw up, according to Cowboy State Daily.

The abuser was ordered into the boot of a red 2007 Chevy car, before Ott started driving deliberately erratically so that metal objects would smash into him while they lay in back, Minard claimed to authorities.

According to court documents, the car pulled up in the middle of the rural countryside where Ott punched Minard again and broke his nose. Minard was then left in the middle of nowhere and only discovered when someone called in a welfare check on a “dishevelled” man wandering in the cold.

Ott, who was sentenced to 9 and 10 years in prison last week, admitted things went “too far”.

On December 11, 2023, methamphetamine, white powder baggies and several syringes were found in Ott’s room, according to an affidavit.

The judge slapped Ott with a three-to-five-year prison sentence for the illicit drug, but allowed him to serve it concurrently with the kidnapping charges.

Minard was sentenced on June 26 to between 10 and 14 years in prison, and ordered to pay £2,290 in fines, plus £389 in restitution to the Wyoming Division of Victim Services.

Around the time of his sentencing, Minard wrote in a letter to the family: “There is not a day that goes by where I wish I could take everything back. I wish that I could have not made the bad choices that day. I wish I could take the pain away from the family I have hurt.”
