Full listing of locations dealing with snow in UK as Met Office points ‘Artic blast’ warning

Huge winds are set to take over the UK which will send temperatures dropping to nearly freezing.

“Arctic air,” will cross over the the country which could put certain parts into a cold plunge. The Met Office says “showers could turn wintry” in places over the next few days.

Forecasters also believe it will feel cooler than it actually is due to high winds. Meteorologists at Ventusky understand it will feel like -2C and -1C across Scotland on Thursday, even though the actual air temperature will be around 3C, reports the Mirror.

The “cold front will sweep south” during the week, and temperatures will drop across parts of northern England, the Midlands and Wales in the coming days too. A Met Office spokesperson said the encroaching cold will set the stage for snow to fall in Britain, specifically over Scotland. They said: “A cold front sweeping south will introduce Arctic air to the UK, resulting in below average temperatures nationwide this week.

“It’s possible there could be some snow on the very tops of the highest peaks in Scotland. We’re talking above around 800 meters.” The spokesperson added that temperatures in the home nation will easily dip to zero and below in the home nation later this week, first reaching 0C on Wednesday.”

The “Arctic air” will impact the whole of the UK this week, a far cry from last week’s glorious last hurrah of the summer – when temperatures topped 25C across the East of England.

Snow is possible in some areas this week, the Met Office says. Its website reads: “Rain will work southwards across the country tomorrow bringing cold northerly winds with it. This markedly cold, showery airmass spreads across the whole of the UK by mid-week with hail and thunder in places, and there is the chance some of the showers could turn wintry over some Scottish mountains.”

  • Scottish Highlands
  • Cairngorms National Park
  • Aberdeenshire
  • More snow is anticipated on Thursday, Ventusky forecasters say. It believes the following areas will see wintry showers – but again snow cover is expected to be minimal.
  • Scottish Highlands
  • Cairngorms National Park

But temperatures are expected to rise again on the weekend. The mercury will hit 20C across Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon, say forecasters. It could be as warm as 21C on Sunday across the Midlands. The Met Office added: “Milder air from the Atlantic is expected to push back across the country later on Friday and more especially into the weekend, cutting off the cold air from the north and seeing a return to temperatures nearer average for the time of year.”
