Liam Gallagher’s son Gene, 23, set to assist Oasis on their tour

He helped bridge the decades-long rift between his uncle and father.

And it appears to have paid off for Liam Gallagher‘s youngest son Gene, who has told how he is to support Oasis for their sell-out reunion tour.

Gene, 23, has confided in friends that the indie rock group he fronts, Villanelle, will be one of ten warm-up acts when his dad, 51, and uncle Noel, 57, take to the stage next September.

An insider said: ‘Gene is supporting Oasis. He’s been telling a few people and he’s really excited. He loves playing with his dad and knows it will be huge for his music career.’

Villanelle are yet to be signed, although they will release their first single with an independent label in November.

But Gene, who is from Liam’s six-year marriage to the All Saints singer Nicole Appleton, previously said: ‘I want to be the biggest band in the world.’

Singing vocals and playing lead guitar for his band, Gene has been the Wonderwall singer’s warm-up act on his solo Definitely, Maybe tour this summer.

But, in typical style, Liam made his son audition for the gig, telling him: ‘Go on, let’s see what you’re made of because if you’re s*** you’re not playing.’

Eventually, the Everything’s Electric singer relented and wrote on his social media: ‘They’re good. I’m going to put them on first for the Definitely, Maybe tour.’

Gene is no stranger to life on the road as his band has spent the last year touring small UK venues.

Oasis is scheduled for a whopping 17-date tour around the UK with performances in Dublin, Liverpool, Manchester and London, with more international dates expected to be announced soon.

The Mail revealed Gene and his cousin, Anaïs, 24, who is Noel’s daughter, played a major part in reuniting the warring brothers for the tour – 15 years after they last played together.

Liam’s time on tour this year with his youngest son brought them closer together and a source said: ‘Liam has seen the passion the younger generation have for the Oasis tracks. Some of them weren’t even born when the band split.

In his usual style, Liam made his son audition for the gig, telling him: 'Go on, let's see what you're made of because if you're s*** you're not playing.'

‘It hadn’t dawned on Noel and Liam until recently that their own kids had never properly seen them together. They didn’t want to wait until it was too late to show them why they are Britain’s biggest band.’

Meanwhile, Gene’s older half-brother, Lennon 24, from Liam’s marriage to the actress Patsy Kensit, and his band, Automotion, have not been called up to support their father.

Speaking about his sons’ bands in 2019, the Live Forever singer said: ‘They’re both eyeing each other up… from across the room. Gene has got a little band and Lennon has got a little band, they’re sort of working it out.

‘Lennon’s music is a bit more spaced out, like early Verve, pretty chilled. Whereas Gene is more like in-your-face, Arctic Monkeys style. Go for it I say.’

Oasis representatives declined to comment.
