Mikel Arteta agrees new long-term Arsenal deal forward of North London Derby

Mikel Arteta has signed a new three deal with Arsenal.

Arteta, 42, has led the Gunners to within touching distance of the Premier League title in recent seasons. And they look set to challenge Manchester City again this time out.

And the North London side have now committed their future to Arteta – with the Spanish boss’ contract set to expire at the end of the season. The Gunners have now settled on his future, with Arteta agreeing to a new deal that will take him through to 2027, according to The Athletic.

Arteta has been at the helm of the Gunners since 2019, when he replaced Unai Emery as head coach before changing his title to manager the following year.

At the Gunners, Arteta won the 2020 FA Cup and took them back into the Champions League in 2023 after a seven-year absence, thanks to finishing second in the Premier League behind City. There would be another second-placed finish the following season.

Arsenal had started this season in fine form, but it quickly unravelled before the international break against Brighton. Declan Rice was flashed his second yellow card for kicking the ball away as the Gunners clung onto one point.

He will now miss Sunday’s North London Derby – and so too will Martin Odegaard who limped off for Norway over the international break. Summer recruits Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori will also be absent.
