Liam Gallagher acquired ‘p***ed’ and brawled with West Ham followers on boat earlier than arrest

Driving round Manchester for an hour looking for drugs before boarding a ferry is bound to end in disaster.

Chuck in a drunk Liam Gallagher and lairy West Ham United fans chanting about bubbles into the mix and you have a brawl for the ages.

The year was 1994 and Oasis were travelling overseas for their first ever European tour – but they didn’t make it far.

They spent an hour loading up on drugs before getting on the cross channel overnight ferry to Amsterdam.

And remembering the scene, Noel said in the Supersonic documentary: “As fate would have it there was a load of West Ham fans on this overnight ferry. It had a casino and it was like a f***ing nightclub.”

Liam said the band members were “p***ed” and he was therefore surprised they made it on the boat in the first place.

The brothers spent a few hours drinking champagne and Jack Daniel slammers before a brawl erupted.

Mark Coyle, producer of Oasis at the time, recalled: “The next thing sporadic fighting is breaking out all round us really. Liam was very excited at the prospect of a lot of chaos going on so he goes and joins in.

“You can see him running through the windows along the deck having a great time. He looks like he is in the school playground chasing leaves.

“The next time I seen him he is still running but he has police men running after him.”

Telling it from his own perspective, Liam said: “Yeah it was f***ing mayhem man, I loved it. A fight broke out and I remember it was a bit of Benny Hill.

“Someone’s punched someone, someone’s kicked someone, someone’s got nicked and then we are handcuffed, sent down the bottom of the boat and get locked up.”

He added: “I thought it was great and that is how I want rock and roll stars to act. Stick up for themselves, get in a bit of shenanigans and that is it. We live to fight another day.”

Getting arrested and being deported made headlines in Britain such as ‘Drunk Band ROCKS THE BOAT’ and ‘Dam Drunks’.

Liam was later asked in an interview whether he was a young hooligan – something he denied.

And Liam and Noel, who have since reunited and are going on the road next year, ended up having a row on camera about the brawl.

Noel said: “The thing about getting thrown off ferries and getting deported is summat I’m not proud about.”

Liam interjected to say he was proud before Noel fumed: “Well if you are proud of getting thrown off ferries, why don’t you go and support West Ham and get the f*** out of my band?”

More bickering ensued, and it has pretty much continued ever since…
