‘I am going on bare bike rides with different ladies – my companion is aware of it is not sexual’

A cycling enthusiast who prefers to cycle naked has revealed how he often plans long haul cycling trips with other women.

He said his girlfriend doesn’t mind as she knows “there’s nothing going on.”

Neil Cox, 36, and his friend, J Antic, 25, recently set off on a 260-mile tandem bike ride, with the pair travelling from Gloucester to Land’s End, Cornwall, completely nude, and it’s not the first time.

Neil, a finance worker, from Stoke, Cheshire East, said: “We did a bike ride down to Land’s End in 2022, and raised about £5k,” but explained that this time around the trip has been more for ‘enjoyment’ rather than to raise money for charity.

Neil and J are both naturists – meaning that they like spending time outside without their clothes on – who share a love of cycling, and decided to take in some of the best “natural beauty across the South West.”

On their most recent trip, the two friends have ridden through Gloucester to Bristol, taken a trip to the Mendips and stopped off in Glastonbury.

Along the way, they’ve opted to camp some nights and have spent others staying in hotels and B&Bs, and have even took a few trips to the shops and bars in the buff while they’ve been away.

The pair are now in Cornwall, on the final part of their ride.

While Neil explained that he was a little concerned about how people would react to them, the response has been “overwhelmingly positive”.

However, he did add that: “People on social media always have opinions – but we haven’t had many negative reactions.

“People in Glastonbury were overwhelmingly positive, it was a bit overwhelming. In Bristol people had a casual indifference, but that’s what we want to be the case really.

“There were times I was worried about a negative reaction, but it was all in my head.”

Neil said people on social media were less fond of their nakedness when he shared their journey on a local Facebook group.

One commented: “You may love seeing each other naked, doesn’t mean we want to. Have more respect for other people!”

Another added: “I have never understood the need of people to draw attention to themselves, without offering anything to the rest of society.”

But others jumped to their defence – with one saying “good on them!” and another saying it’s “good to counteract the media portrayal of bodies these days”.

Despite the negativity on social media, Neil explained their naturism isn’t supposed to offend anyone – it’s just a natural way of living.

He said: “I don’t think naked bodies are bad or dangerous,” and explained how ‘it’s not a sexual thing’, which is why his girlfriend of 10 years is ‘comfortable’ with Neil taking trips with other women, because ‘she knows it’s a wholesome thing and there’s nothing going on’.
