Loner weirdo killed spouse and spent life insurance coverage on intercourse doll to ‘change her’
A lonely and twisted killer murdered his wife, claimed a small fortune on insurance payouts, span a web of lies about her death and went on to buy a sex doll to “replace her”.
Colby Trickle, the jealous and controlling husband of Kristin, violently killed his wife by shooting her under the chin as she slept at their home in Kansas City, United States, and pretended she took her own life, even getting away with it for a time.
Kristin, a 26-year-old Walmart employee, had big dreams for the future and wanted to start her own business. Trickle put a stop to that when he brutally killed the animal lover eight years into their relationship.

When officers arrived at the scene on Halloween morning in 2019, they found Kristen covered in blood in her bed wearing just her underwear, reports The Mirror. A revolver was lying on her stomach and a bullet had entered under her chin.
When they realised she was showing faint signs of life, paramedics rushed to save her and transported her to the living room where they began CPR but cold Colby waited on the porch and chatted to police officers about video games while his wife lay dying.
When told his wife was dead, he started to cry and asked if officers were sure he’d called 911 and told the dispatcher he’d found his wife with a gunshot wound to the head earlier that morning.
He described waking to a loud sound that made his ears ring. When he looked over, Kristen had a gunshot wound to the head and was bleeding out. The coroner examined the scene and concluded it was typical of a self-inflicted gunshot and her cause of death was initially ruled a suicide.
But investigators weren’t convinced about Trickle’s version of events and a number of things didn’t add up including that Kristin had set the alarm for the morning, had sweets out ready for Halloween and the gun used meant it would have been difficult for a petite woman to hold under her chin and pull the trigger.
There were lies and inconsistencies in his stories and he even told police he’d done tours in the military in certain locations but when police checked, he hadn’t. The twisted murderer even looked up how much an insurance payout would be if she died, 10 days before killing her.
The following year Trickle started to get two life insurance payouts and went on with his life. He played in bands at bars and posted on social media about making the most of life.
By 2021 a new county attorney was elected and the case was reviewed. Finally in July 2021, nearly two years after Kristen’s death, Trickle was arrested and charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty.
The jury heard that Trickle had collected over $120,000 from two life insurance policies, which he’d spent in just eight months on debts, music equipment and video games. Among the purchases was a $2,000 life-size sex doll.
The defence and his mother told the court that Trickle had been lonely and had trouble sleeping so the doll was for “comfort and warmth” not sex. Kristen’s family felt as though Trickle had “replaced her” with a sex doll.
The jury found Trickle, 29, guilty of first-degree murder. That November, he was sentenced to life in prison with the chance of parole in 50 years.
