Deadly Storm Boris unleashes flooding horror in Europe as 7 killed

Storm Boris continues to cause devastating havoc across Europe as at least seven people have died and four are missing.

It comes after torrential rain from the deadly storm caused flooding across parts of the continent.

The floods have claimed at least five lives in Romania and one each in Austria and Poland.

Whereas four people are said to be missing in the Czech Republic after being swept away by the water according to the police. An Austrian fireman has also died responding to floods, authorities said.

Around 100 places in the European country have been hit with the highest flood warnings by authorities, as reported by The Mirror.

Up north in the region of the Jeseniky mountains, near the Polish border, the situation was reported to be the worst due to having the biggest rainfall in recent days. It has been said raging waters “turned roads into rivers” in the area.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala told Czech public television on Sunday: “We have to focus on saving lives. The worst is not behind us yet.” The government is set to meet on Monday, September 16, to assess the ongoing situation and damages.

In the city of Opava, up to 10,000 people out of a population of around 56,000 have been asked to leave their homes for higher ground.

Rescuers used boats to transport people to safety in a neighbourhood flooded by the raging Opava River. A helicopter was sent by the military to help with evacuations.

Jesenik mayor Zdenka Blistanova said that several houses in her and other nearby towns have been destroyed by the floods..
