Carl Froch is aware of precisely what’s going to occur when Dubois faces Joshua

Carl Froch is confident Daniel Dubois will lose his blockbuster heavyweight title fight against Anthony Joshua by being overwhelmed by the occasion.

Dubois is set to defend his IBF heavyweight title this Saturday (September 21) for the first time since Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt in June. The 27-year-old faces a mammoth task against fellow Brit and two-time former champion Joshua in his biggest fight yet.

The titanic boxing clash will take place in front of a crowd of 96,000 at Wembley Stadium, where AJ has fought twice previously but will mark a debut for Dubois. And that is exactly why former super-middleweight champion Froch believes Joshua will win, predicting that Dubois’ lack of experience on the biggest stage will hinder him.

But while he backed Joshua, Froch did identify several reasons why Dubois may gain the other hand. He claimed that the younger fighter is in “better form” when asked for his opinion on Stephen Hendry’s Cue Tips.

Froch said: “Dubois is a good fighter, this is the biggest moment of his career. He’s a big, strong heavyweight and can punch hard. He’s actually in better form than AJ.

“I think AJ’s head’s not in the right space where he’s confident to go back in against a genuine world champion. I think if Dubois gets in the ring and puts it on him, you might see AJ in some serious trouble.

“No one’s done that to him since Usyk. Usyk played with him twice, beat him up twice. So what’s AJ done since then? He’s fought four nobodies who didn’t try and only came to get a paycheck.”

He added: “But I’m making AJ the favourite just because he’s been in more world title fights. He’s fought at Wembley already in front of big crowds. When Dubois gets in that ring, I know he’s going to look around and think ‘f***ing hell’.

“This is going to get to him. He either goes for it and embraces it or crumbles. Most people crumble. This is Dubois’ moment to shine or his moment to learn the hard way.”

Saturday’s bout will be an astonishing 13th world title fight for Joshua. After losing two title bouts on the bounce to undefeated heavyweight champion Usyk, Joshua has bounced back with convincing wins over Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.

Already sporting a 28-3 record, Froch warns that a fourth loss to Dubois could spell the end for Joshua’s illustrious career. Froch said bluntly: “I think if he beats AJ it’s the end of AJ. That’s AJ finished.”

However, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of a future clash between Joshua and Tyson Fury, despite Fury also suffering a defeat at Usyk’s hands in May earlier this year.
