“It should not have happened,” Tate, who is Black, told NBC Miami. “We were all in a crowd. I was trying to hold onto him to avoid him slamming me.” A viral clip showing the incident was posted on Instagram and shows the police officer grabbing Tate by the shoulders and flipping her to the ground.
When Tate gets back up the officer grabs her again while parents and students alike fight each other in chaotic scenes.

She added: “When I got up, he pulled me back down, like slammed me back down, and one of the officers was stepping on my hairAnd then they cuffed me and put me in the back of the police car.”
Tate is currently under “house detention” and cannot leave except for school, church or situations of emergency.
According to NBC Miami, Tate is accused of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. Miami-Dade Schools Police have said they are “investigating” the incident.
