Redknapp is looking out for the ‘Best Worst Team’ after ‘loving’ final season
“I absolutely loved it,” Harry Redknapp told Daily Star Sport said with a chuckle.
Redknapp, 77, has managed against some of the top clubs in the world, but he’s now looking at a new challenge – one he’s already experienced. Last season, the Swansea Senior League Division 4 completed one of football’s all-time comebacks with Redknapp at the helm.
Cwm Albion overcome three years of consecutive defeats and a staggering -191 goal difference to net 50 goals and accumulate 7 wins. “I think I got as excited on that touch line as I did at, you know, beating Milan or somebody in the Champions League!”

He continued: “I give them a bit of confidence, really. It’s important to get them believing that they can win a game….
“And yeah, making it fun for them. I mean, it’s more fun when you’re winning and playing well than it is when you’re getting beat badly every week. We give them a bit of confidence and hopefully get the best out of them and get them playing!”

Specsavers are now looking to give the the new ‘Best Worst Team’ a chance to raise their game – and give their bruised egos a well-earned boost – with training and mentorship for Redknapp and his team.
“Grassroots football is all important, and it gets neglected by the people at the top,” Redknapp continued. “They don’t contribute enough to grassroots football.
“If every Premier League club just made a donation, a yearly donation in their area or towards grassroots football, we’d have better pitches, better facilities… Some of them are disgusting; there’s no changing facilities; the pitches are shocking. Nothing’s done about it.
“It’s only a small It wouldn’t take a lot. It wouldn’t take a lot and one donation from each club in the Premier League or in the Championship and in and lower down. Just a smaller donation, obviously.”
He added: “More grassroots teams need to be given opportunities like they’re the ones Specsavers are offering. It’s enormous to grassroots football!”
As well as helping the clubs, Redknapp has made memories to last a lifetime.
He chuckled throughout a tale of him time at Cwm Albion – talking about why he couldn’t substitute one player in particular.
“Danny, the manager, and I didn’t know his dad was centre half. I turned him and told him to take his centre half off in the first half. ‘Get him off, Daddy, He’s had it. He’s knackered. Look at him.’
“The old G, he was at the back, and Danny said, ‘Oh, I can’t take him off, you know?’ And I said, ‘What? Get him off. He’s an idiot.
“He said, ‘He’s my dad!” There were some funny stories and when we finally got a win, it was a brilliant day. I absolutely loved it.”
