Villa followers joke they’re ‘profitable the Champions League’ after quick-fire double
Aston Villa fans have joked they’re “winning it all” after finding themselves in dreamland at the Wankdorf.
Villa returned to European football’s top table on Tuesday as they travelled to Switzerland to clash with Young Boys. And Youri Tielemans handed the English side the lead, bringing down the ball before curling it into the bottom left corner.
Unai Emery’s side were in the ascendancy, and it wasn’t long before Jacob Ramsey had doubled their lead. The youngster bundled home the ball to round off some comical defending from the Swiss side.

“We’re winning the Champions League now,” one fan confidently declared. While a second said: “Don’t think I’ve ever felt so proud to be a Villa fan. Never thought I’d see us play in the Champions League and to win the first game so convincingly is just a dream come true!”
“Memorable day for Villa, great result should have been more,” a third posted. And another added: “Today is a very good day.”

Amadou Onana would add Villa’s third as they ended the clash atop the new singular Champions League table.
“We are going to compete in the Champions League and I want to compete being a protagonist,” Unai Emery insisted ahead of the game. “I don’t want to play in the Champions League getting there and not being competitive.
“We are demanding of ourselves and we want to keep the same spirit we had last year to compete,” Emery explained.
“We will be competitive. I have experiences in different European competitions and we competed very well three years ago with Villarreal, getting to the semi-finals. It was fantastic, but now my new challenge is to do something similar with Aston Villa.
“I don’t know about getting to quarter-finals or semi-finals, but we have to be competitive and play each match facing the best teams in the world.
“The players have to be very demanding. We have changed some players in the squad, trying to get balance and developing in the direction we want to move forward in, getting better every year.”
