Squirrel causes prepare to be cancelled after refusing to depart as passengers flee
Images reveal the audacious squirrel that led to the cancellation of a train service after it hopped on board. The morning commute to Gatwick Airport was called off when two squirrels got on the train, with one refusing to disembark.
The duo caused the Great Western Railway’s 8:54am Saturday service from Reading to Gatwick to end prematurely at Redhill, having boarded at Gomshall, Surrey. Passengers moved along the train after the critters entered the rear carriage, which was then locked by the train manager, according to a GWR spokesperson.

A Network Rail employee made an unsuccessful attempt to usher the animals off the train at Redhill, and the stubborn squirrel that wouldn’t leave was taken back to Reading, as explained by GWR.
A GWR spokesperson confirmed: “We can confirm that the 0854 Reading to Gatwick was terminated at Redhill after a couple of squirrels boarded the train at Gomshall without tickets, breaching railway byeclaws.”
“We attempted to remove them at Redhill, but one refused to leave and was returned to Reading to bring an end to this nutty tail.”
