Wrexham house owners Ryan and Rob in talks to purchase stake in second UK sports activities group

“And we’ve seen the fantastic work that Ryan and Rob have done in engaging football fans in North Wales and building that brand globally.”

He added: “It gives huge opportunity to the game to expand its footing and to grow it, as we’ve seen with The Hundred, with lots of great crowds, family crowds coming in.

“I think it can inspire the next generation of players to pick up a bat and ball.”

It is part of a move by the England and Wales Cricket Board to sell 49% stakes in each of the eight Hundred cricket franchises.

Cricket chiefs hopes this will raise about £500m. Deadpool star Ryan, 47, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Rob, 47, have transformed the Red Dragons’ fortunes since buying the club in 2020.

They oversaw Wrexham’s return to the English Football League for the first time in 15 years.
