Celebrity Race Across The World winner revealed in nail-biting finale

Celebrity Race Across The World came to a nail-biting end on Wednesday night as Scott Mills and his husband Sam were declared the 2024 winners.

In the final episode of the series, the four teams rushed to the finish line as they made their way through Argentina into Chile to get to the seaside town of Frutillar.

Trekking through the stunning region of Patagonia, crossing through mountains and deserts on a tight budget, tensions were running high as the ending came near for the celebrities.

Each team choosing different routes by bus, coach, taxi and even hitch-hiking, Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi took an early lead.

However, BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott and Sam, plus Ted Lasso‘s Kola Bokinni and cousin Mary-Ellen quickly caught up with the couple in exciting scenes.

As Kola and Mary-Ellen and Scott and Sam arrived in Frutillar, they travelled to a designated restaurant before heading to the base camp of a volcano.

With money running-short, Kola and Mary-Ellen were forced to do the last leg of the race by foot and climbed up the volcano to get to the Chilean flag that marked the end of the race.

However, Scott and Sam were the first to sign their name in the book signaling the end of the race and crowning them the winners – beating Kola and Mary-Ellen by two hours.

Scott said: ‘Speechless. When you open that book, and there’s no other names in it, there’s no other feeling like it.

‘It’s been exhilarating, it’s been tough, it’s been so frustrating at times, but it just proves we’re a great team – a winning team’.

Sam added that winning was the ‘best feeling ever’.

Arriving nearly a day later, Jeff Brazier and son Freddy came in third followed by Kelly and Jeremy.

The entire 12,500km route took 30 days for the groups to complete.

Discussing winning the show, Scott admitted he was in complete shock and he couldn’t ‘process’ the fact the couple had won.

He said: ‘It’s ridiculous. It’s bizarre. When we were on the top of the volcano, we had a hug and a little cry.

‘People were telling us repeatedly that we had won, but I still could not compute it. I could not get it in my head. I couldn’t process it.’

Sam agreed: ‘Even at the very end of the race, we still had it in our heads that we were going to be towards the bottom. In our heads we still didn’t think we were in with a chance of winning until we opened that book. It was so weird.’

The radio presenter described the BBC show as ‘exhilarating, inspiring and exhausting’ and admitted the experience made his and Sam’s relationship ‘even stronger’.

Scott gushed: ‘It’s made Sam and I’s relationship even stronger. I knew that Sam was the one but this whole experience made me absolutely realise without a shadow of a doubt that he was the one.

‘We might never have this amount of time again when we are absolutely disconnected from the world. I very much doubt that it will ever happen again in our lives. It will remain special forever.’
