Man Utd given large damage enhance as Erik ten Hag bids to maintain momentum going

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag finally has something to smile about as Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount returned to training on Wednesday.

Hojlund has been sidelined since copping a nasty hamstring injury in July during a pre-season friendly with Arsenal. The Danish dynamo has been out for the entire season so far, but now looks set to make a comeback giving the squad a massive lift.

Mount, who swapped Chelsea for United last summer, kicked off the season with two appearances in the Premier League and a run-out in the Community Shield dust-up against Manchester City. But after a tussle with Brighton, he was hauled off at half-time and has been sidelined with his own hamstring drama.

“We have to rotate because we have loads of games and we have to manage the squad,” the Dutchman spilled to Sky Sports on Tuesday. “You need everyone; you can’t talk about a starting 11 players. You have to give all the players in the squad game time if they are available,” reports the Mirror.

This double dose of good news is just what the doctor ordered for Ten Hag as he gears up for United’s face-off with Crystal Palace. A gruelling schedule of six games in 20 days began with a Carabao Cup thrashing of Barnsley, where United romped home 7-0 even after making eight changes, so squad depth is key.

Rasmus Hojlund of Manchester United celebrates with the trophy following the Emirates FA Cup Final match between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on May 25, 2024 in London, England.
Hojlund had a decent debut season, scoring 16 goals in all competitions and winning the FA Cup, but was hampered by injury

“We need all the players in the squad, we are in five leagues [competitions],” the former Ajax mastermind added. “We want to win but there is internal competition.

“We have to find out what is the best team, what is the best chemistry and this is a moment for some players to prove a point.” United’s boss remains without Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw due to injury and was coy in his recent prognosis for the latter.

“First, Luke Shaw, he’s progressing but not ready yet to be selected,” he said earlier this week. “Of course, we have a plan in our head when he can be ready but you are always dependent on how the progress will go.

“You can’t think, you can’t make a suggestion [of a return date] because there are so many factors why a plan can accelerate or slow down.”
