Mike Tyson comes clear about purse for Jake Paul boxing struggle with Netflix deal

Mike Tyson has shot down the notion that cash is driving his highly-anticipated showdown with Jake Paul.

The iconic heavyweight, 58, is on the verge of lacing up his gloves for a major comeback since his exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr in 2020. The last time Iron Mike threw down in a pro bout was back in 2005, when he bowed out against Kevin McBride at the end of round five.

Tyson is set to lock horns with Youtube sensation-turned-pro-boxer Paul on November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas. Despite being 30 years Paul’s senior, Tyson insists it’s not a financial fightback at all.

It’s the thrill and danger of the fight game that’s got Tyson itching to take on Paul, not a paycheck. While chatting it up at Cage Wars MMA last week, Tyson tossed out this truth bomb: “I could be waiting on a check every day from cannabis,” he declared, reports the Mirror.

“That’s bulls*** for me. I’m a man; I want to go out there and I want to expose myself to risk. Sometimes I want to see who I really am. I want to see what I’m really made out of.

“I want to perform in front of the world. To me, that’s all I ever knew how to do since I was 14. This fight is not going to change my life financially enough. This is just what I want to do.”

Tyson’s task is to overcome Paul in eight two-minute rounds. The 28-year-old boasts a record of 10-1 and recently triumphed over MMA and bareknuckle boxing star Mike Perry in a match.

This encounter came about after Paul’s bout with Tyson was delayed due to the latter’s health issue. Tyson experienced an ulcer flare-up during a flight and was declared medically unfit to compete.

Tyson has recently confessed that he is not yet fully fit. “It’s hard to walk right now,” he admitted.

“But two months from now I’m going to be perfect. The fight is won in the gym. Listen, I’ll do anything that will help me. I’m going to enjoy my time here tonight with all my childhood friends, and the hell with Jake Paul.”
