Angry mum handed £13,500 Airbnb invoice however says proprietor ‘messed with the mistaken lady’
An enraged mum is fighting back after receiving a massive Airbnb bill for damages she claims she did not cause.
Illinois-based Amy Peto went away on a girls’ trip to Douglas, Michigan in June this year. After an innocuous but pleasant time, Amy returned home to find a scathing review from her Airbnb “superhost” and a bill for more than $18,000 (£13,500).
According to the review, obtained by WLS, “Amy made huge damage to the house that will result in very expensive repairs. Horrible guests.”

There’s lots of quality news coming out of the US.
Attached to the review was a picture of the house’s bathtub which had a large hole on one of the sides. The woman and her friends denied all knowledge of the damage, meaning it was their word against the host’s.
“I had absolutely no idea what he was referring to,” Amy told the local news station WLS. “That, to me, looks like a sledgehammer. And this is not damage that we did.”
She added: “He’s having me not just repair the bathtub, but pay for his plumbing fixtures, his tile, his glass door, painting, management fee, plumbing, trash and demo to the tune of $18,820.”
Amy claimed the host “knew exactly what he was doing” and had set her up because he wanted “some fool” to pay for his new bathroom.
“You messed with the wrong girl,” she said. “I’m single. I have two young boys. There’s no way I would be able to drop $18,000 on a teacher’s salary.”
Amy said the “scarring” incident means she is now through with Airbnb. “I don’t think I will ever use or recommend Airbnb because he is still a Superhost,” she said.
According to Airbnb’s website, a ‘superhost’ is “a host who goes above and beyond to provide excellent hospitality.
