Reform UK flogging ‘Save Britain’ t-shirts at convention – made in Bangladesh
Reform UK is flogging t-shirts emblazoned with the words ‘Let’s Save Britain’ – despite being manufactured in Bangladesh.
The £15 shirts are being sold at the merchandise stand at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmimgham. Around 4,000 delegates are expected at the event, which will see leader Nigel Farage give a speech this afternoon.
The Mirror spotted black and white t-shirts, which also have the Reform UK logo on them, on sale at the event. Both have labels saying ‘made in Bangladesh’. They are among an array of merchandise on sale that also include caps, mugs and bags.
It will come as an embarrassment for Mr Farage, who has previously spoken about the need to protect British businesses. Disappointingly for fans of the divisive former UKIP boss, his face doesn’t feature on any of it.
The Mirror has contacted Reform UK for comment. It comes as party bosses try to push through a new constitution which they claim will make it more democratic. But former deputy leader Ben Habib, who was ousted when the former UKIP boss returned as leader, has branded it an “awful” document and said it won’t end Mr Farage’s iron grip on the party.
Mr Habib said: “This is not democracy. This is not the ability of the membership to remove the leader. This is the technical ability of the membership to ask the board to please consider removing the leader.”
Elsewhere deputy leader Richard Tice claimed his boss was “far from” distracted by his trips to the US. Mr Farage has visited the US three times since being elected as the MP for Clacton, including attending the Republican national convention in Milwaukee two weeks after the election.
He said at the time he was supporting his “friend” former president Trump in the wake of an assassination attempt. Mr Tice said: “But as a leader of a party that is now becoming mainstream, international affairs, our relationship with our most important, strategic international partner – the US – is very important and the world will be a safer place if Donald Trump wins the presidential election.
“Nigel’s strong relationship with Donald Trump is actually to the benefit of this country and it’s quite right that he cements and strengthens that.”
