UK to roast below hovering 25C temperatures right this moment – nevertheless it’s not all sunshine

The Met Office has predicted a high of 25C for Brits today, although “torrential downpours” are also on the cards. The weather was described as “a mixed bag” on Friday and this unpredictable pattern is set to continue today.

However, those who manage to avoid the rain will enjoy a pleasant and balmy day in the 25C sunshine, most likely in the Southeast of England around 3pm or 4pm.

Amy Bokota, a meteorologist at the Met Office, explained: “Later on through the morning and into the afternoon, there will be some more sunshine developing and some of the cloud will start to push back towards the coast”. She added that it would be a brighter afternoon between showers, with particularly good spells of sunshine across the southern half of the UK. Temperatures could even reach up to 25C.

“It will be a brighter afternoon in-between the showers. There will be particularly some decent spells of sunshine across the southern half of the UK too. Temperatures could even reach up to 25C. If you are out of those showers, it will still feel pretty pleasant. But torrential downpours are potentially possible.”

Not everyone can expect perfect weather

Kent is expected to be among the warmest areas today, but temperatures are likely to exceed 20C across Greater London, Surrey, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire among other counties, reports the Mirror.

The UK is set for a soaking with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, as heavy rain is expected to lash Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and other parts of the country later in the day. The Home Counties, Midlands, and Southwest England are predicted to bear the brunt of the downpours throughout the day, raising fears of sudden flooding and treacherous driving conditions, with some communities at risk of being cut off.

Ms Bokota said: “Through the rest of Saturday, we do still see further showers developing, and pushing out from the south. Cloud will continue to push back in from the East coast. So, it is going to be a much cloudier start on Sunday, and we do still have another warning. This one is different to the last two we have seen on Friday and Saturday. This one is a rainfall warning.”

Forecasters are particularly concerned about Sunday, with a specific rainfall warning issued due to the volume of rain anticipated. South Wales and the Midlands are highlighted as potential hotspots for the worst of the weather, with flood warnings already in place, including several along the Wye estuary in both Wales and England.
