Woman sick to abdomen after promoting couch for £350 – solely to seek out it is value £14k

A woman was left in shock after she sold her old sofa for a mere few hundred quid, only to find out it was worth 40 times more.

On TikTok, user Jules Schreiner shared her dismay, revealing she thought she’d struck gold by selling a couch she’d been given for free for $500 (£350) on Facebook Marketplace.

However, the plot thickened when the new owner boasted on Instagram, suggesting the piece might be a “Vladimir Kagan” design. The legendary mid-century designer, who was honoured in the Interior Designer Hall of Fame in 2009, is known for furniture that fetches eye-watering prices.

Jules, hailing from Carpentersville, Illinois, was gutted after spotting a similar Kagan sofa online with a staggering price tag of $20,000 (£14,000), regretting not doing her homework before the sale.

In her post, Jules wrote: “Thought I had got a great deal on FB market place but ya know things are always too good to be true.”

Her video went viral, racking up thousands of views, and viewers poured in with a mix of sympathy and advice for her costly mistake.

One user said: “My mum used to work for a high-end brand, I didn’t know about when I searched it up I was like no way.”

Another advised: “Ok so from now on, we are going to look for name brands on the things we buy ok? LOL then we are going to Google them.”

A kind soul tried to console her, saying: “It’s only worth that much if someone is willing to pay.
