Brits are spreading germs at residence – and there is a straightforward answer to cease it

A shocking survey of 2,000 adults has bared the filthy truth that a third of Brits have not swapped their mop head in half a year, effectively just swishing germs around their floors.

The poll uncovered that a whopping 53% only reluctantly drag the mop out from behind the appliances when absolutely needed, resulting in mountains of grime blissfully going unnoticed.

Dyson’s cleaning guru and boffin engineer Geli Lee, whose team conducted the study to shout about their new WashG1 wet floor cleaner, said: “Cleaning your hard floors properly and regularly is important for maintaining a healthy environment around your home.”

“Without a proper cleaning routine, dirt may unknowingly build up and spread around your home. It is evident from our research that current mopping habits mean British households aren’t cleaning their floors as effectively as they should.”

Moreover, the nitty-gritty of this dirt dossier highlighted that even though nearly half of those quizzed will swap out grimy water when tottering between rooms, an alarming 41% don’t change in the water until it ‘looks’ dirty.

To add to the grubby revelations, 28% admitted they give their floors a once-over with the mop every fortnight or even less frequently.

Barely 41% are keeping to a regular cleaning timetable, and 60% don’t change the tops unless there’s visible evidence of filth.

Yet despite some giving their floors a wipe-down, a paranoid 22% are still spooked by the thought of lingering dirt post-mop, with a quarter seriously shaken over their dust dilemmas.

Geli Lee, a home cleaning guru and Dyson engineer, cautioned: “From ignoring problem areas where dust and debris build up, cross contamination with dirty water to not replacing mop heads or inconsistent cleaning, current mopping behaviours may be making floors dirtier as opposed to cleaner.”

“Moving away from traditional methods, wet floor cleaners simplify the floor cleaning experience and provide a modern efficient and hygienic solution.”

Top tips on how to eliminate dirt around your home:

  1. Establish a cleaning schedule to keep on top of dirt accumulation.
  2. Ensure a clutter-free surface, clear any mess from the floor or other surfaces.
  3. Pick the right machine as different vacuums are designed for various floor types and home sizes.
  4. Clean your floors ‘little and often’.
  5. Regularly washing your floors in high-traffic areas will help prevent dirt build-up and stop it from being trodden into your floor.
