England’s greatest space for uni life named – low-cost pints and fewer likelihood of bashings

The north of England is best for university life – with cheaper pints and less chance of receiving a student bashing.

Four of the top five locations are up north, while London ranked bottom when researchers looked at the cost and quality of life for undergraduates.

As freshers start their courses this week, a new report shows Durham is top for fun-loving scholars with a whopping 44 bars and clubs per 100,000 people.

A pint in the north-east city is typically just £4 and just one in five worry about a beating from student-hating locals.

Similarly, concerns about being robbed or walking home alone are also low, with the average cost of a late-night taxi ride just £1.09 per km.

York, Newcastle and Lincoln also boast low living costs coupled with high levels of safety, found the study by Get Licensed, with a pint just £3.50 in fellow top five uni life city Sunderland.

Coventry, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester followed London as the worst cities for party-loving students, with Manchester’s eye-watering £5 pint price difficult to swallow.
