F1 legend dubbed final playboy for bedding 33 BA stewardesses in 2 weeks
James Hunt, the notorious Formula 1 playboy, reportedly bedded 33 British Airways stewardesses in a mere fortnight.
The Surrey-born racer was famed for his high-flying lifestyle off the track, even maintaining his playboy antics during the week leading up to what was dubbed “the biggest race of his life.”
Despite a relatively short six-year stint on the F1 circuit, Hunt is hailed as one of Britain’s finest racers, having clinched the 1976 world championship, beating the legendary Niki Lauda. Heading into the final race in Japan, the title was still very much up for grabs.

However, the McLaren driver didn’t prepare like most would. Instead, he continued with his usual debauchery, seemingly unfazed by the mounting pressures of the upcoming race.
Reports suggest that Hunt, known for his “gigantic appetite for sex,” invited British Airways stewardesses to his suite at the Tokyo Hilton hotel after they were dropped off at reception for a 24-hour layover. On race day, it appeared Hunt’s libido didn’t wane.
Patrick Head, Williams F1 co-founder and then young car designer, allegedly walked in on the McLaren man getting frisky with a local in the pit garage.
Despite his unconventional preparation, Hunt managed to secure a third-place podium finish and clinch the 1976 championship. His post-race celebrations were as wild as one might expect.
The British Embassy recognised the Brit’s heroics with a ceremony, but Hunt was reportedly almost denied entry due to his inebriated state.
Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone booked out Hunt’s flight home, leading to a 12-hour sky-high party as he journeyed back to London. As thousands of Brits gathered at the airport to welcome the racing star home, Hunt was spotted stumbling out of the plane, having “drained the aircraft of alcohol.”
The world champion was greeted by his mother, his long-suffering girlfriend Jane Birbeck, and his adoring fans. Birbeck reportedly had no clue about the shenanigans her partner had been up to during his playboy week in Tokyo.
Hunt had previously been married to Suzy Miller, but their relationship soon fell apart – likely due to the driver’s lifestyle – and they went through a messy divorce. Miller then started dating actor Richard Burton, who allegedly paid Hunt $1 million to settle his divorce with his new partner in the same year as his world triumph.
