Liverpool legend ‘truly damage’ Soccer AM host when he ‘nailed’ him on dwell TV
Former Liverpool and Newcastle United star Jose Enrique once had a Soccer AM presenter writhing in agony.
Soccer AM aired its final show in May last year, when the popular Saturday morning football show ended amid a sea of changes at Sky Sports. During its near 20-year run from 1994 to 2023 the show often featured guests who would be asked to compete in football challenges.
But when the Spanish defender took a turn, he left one of the Soccer AM crew clutching his ankle in pain on live TV. During a carpark volley challenge, Enrique, who had joined in alongside a group of Bolton Wanderers supporters, stepped up to take his shot.

But the 2012 League Cup winner fell and landed on top of James Kirtland, also known as Curly. The presenter was left clutching his ankle and even chucked his headset to the ground when he was approached by other members of staff to see if he was alright.
In the aftermath of the incident, Soccer AM host John ‘Fenners’ Fendley said midway through the segment his colleague was “actually hurt”. Enrique meanwhile continued the challenge while Curly stayed down – prompting plenty of reaction on social media.
One fan on X wrote: “Hahahaha Jose Enrique has just nailed someone on soccer AM on volley challenge hahaha.” A second added: “Jose Enrique has just killed a member of the soccer am crew. Can’t believe they’re taking this away from us.”
A third continued: “Any notice Jose Enrique just took out the man on soccer am and actually hurt the lad.” The show aired on April 1 2023, which was just a month prior to Soccer AM’s final episode.
On May 27, 2023, Soccer AM finished for good, with fans tuning in for the final show to watch guests including rapper Stormzy, comedian Jack Whitehall and actor Stephen Graham.
