‘Would-be’ killer who plotted a sub-machine gun assassination jailed for all times
A man who conspired to carry out an assassination using a military-grade sub-machine gun capable of firing 800 rounds per minute has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Sujeel Amjad, aged 22, passed on a collection of weapons including pistols, a shotgun and the machine gun to a shooter in December of the previous year. Amjad, along with a group of men, retrieved the firearms from a Wolverhampton address on December 3 last year before returning to Birmingham.
The shooter collected the cache, which included the Skorpion sub-machine gun, and then proceeded to his target’s residence on Southbourne Avenue, Hodge Hill.

The gunman fired at the front of the house but upon realising his target was not home, he decided to hide and wait. When the intended victim returned home in his car, the shooter opened fire again, peppering the vehicle with bullet holes and narrowly missing the man.
Eyewitnesses reported that the masked man made his getaway in two stolen cars which were later found burnt out. Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (20/9), Amjad, 22, received a life sentence and will serve a minimum of 20 years.
He was found guilty of attempted murder relating to the second shooting, and arson of the two cars. Detectives discovered images of Amjad posing with two pistols, as well as another image of a scorpion sub-machine gun.
Text messages revealed that he was responsible for sourcing the cloned plates on one of the stolen cars and for setting them alight following the attempted murder.
DI Francis Nock revealed: “The Skorpion is a military-grade weapon, capable of discharging around 800 rounds per minute. It’s incredible really that no one was actually hit, despite that clearly being the intention of the gunman.”
“Mobile phone and CCTV analysis helped us connect Amjad to the planning of the second shooting, and we know from text messages that he was involved in arranging false number plates for at least one of the cars which were used in the shootings and which he later helped destroy. We are determined to bring the gunman who is still on the run to justice, and won’t stop until he is behind bars.”
Despite the police’s efforts, the shooter has managed to flee the country and remains at large.
