Brits advised to smell cows by specialists who say it is udderly sensible for well being

Sniffing a cow is udderly brilliant for your health, experts say.

People who live in cities should be visiting farms as often as they can to expose themselves to mega microbes mostly found on animals.

And whiffing a heifer is especially good, according to Professor William Cookson of Imperial College London.

He said: “Being around cows in particular seems to be beneficial.

Boffins want to bottle up the smelly livestock to cure diseases

“Cows and other farmyard animals have a rich source of diverse and beneficial microbes which we breathe in if we’re near them, and can also pick up on our skin from touching surfaces around them on the farm.”

Boffins are even seeking to bottle up the smelly livestock formula in the hope it could cure certain diseases.

People could then blast the bovine bacteria up their hooters without having to step foot in a farmyard.

Prof Cookson added: “The next step is identifying which microbes are essential and finding if there are ways to replace them if they’re missing – by inhaling them in a nebuliser – which could potentially treat conditions.”

Poor health is being blamed on our obsession with cleanliness and an increasing lack of interaction with different animals.

Social media is full of cleaning influencers like Sophie Hinchcliffe, whose account Mrs Hinch Home has almost 5m followers.

The Essex mum recommends different products for ridding your home of grime.

But experts believe we need to be exposed to bacteria to boost our immune systems.

And just being around cows regularly means we will breathe in their mini critters that will improve our bodies.

Various studies have shown that early exposure to farm animals, especially before birth, can help protect against asthma and allergies.

Experts say over relying on medicine is also damaging our health and could lead to more serious conditions.

Professor Cookson added: “We take a lot of antibiotics, and everything is cleaner than it used to be.

‘We don’t entirely understand why, but if the microbiome is unbalanced, what’s usually a trivial infection triggers an over-exuberant inflammatory response, causing asthma attacks or attacks of COPD.”
