Man ‘shot cop and left her blind whereas killing one other’ – and he ‘filmed all of it’

A Texas police woman tragically lost her sight after a gunman targeted her and two others in what’s been called a premeditated “execution”.

Heroic Dallas Police Sr. Cpl. Karissa David left hospital care on September 19, weeks after a bullet to her face rendered her blind, amid a shooting spree that also saw her colleague killed.

On August 29, Officer David faced a horrific attack as 30-year-old gunman Corey Cobb-Bey opened fire in a parking area in Far Oak Cliff, Dallas, leaving her in critical condition, Dallas Police reported. The appalling assault happened around 10pm when the gunman approached Officer Darron Burks, who was stationed in his patrol car outside an office building, reports the Express US.

Cobb-Bey, suspected of recording the brutal act on his phone, engaged Officer Burks in a brief chat before drawing a pistol and viciously killing him as he sat in his cruiser, police said.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia emphasised the severity of the attack: “I do want to make something clear,” he addressed the media. “I know that the word ambush has been thrown around in the last 24 hours or so. That is not what happened here. Officer Burks was executed.”

Officers were summoned to the community centre following an “unusual transmission from Officer Burks’ radio”, according to a police dispatcher. The officer failed to respond to attempts to contact him.

In a shocking turn of events, the suspect reportedly returned to his vehicle, retrieved a shotgun and placed it on the roof of Burks’ patrol car, as per police reports.

Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer was the first officer to arrive at the scene, only to be greeted with gunfire from Cobb-Bey. This forced her to retaliate and sprint across the parking lot.

The suspect is then alleged to have grabbed the shotgun from the patrol car’s roof and fired again at Farmer, striking her in the leg as she fled.

Sr. Cpl. Karissa David, the second officer to respond, arrived on the scene a minute after Farmer. Cobb-Bey is then said to have charged towards Officer David, firing multiple shots at her as she exited her police vehicle.

Officer David returned fire but was tragically shot in the face during the exchange. All three officers were immediately rushed to the hospital with Officer Burks sadly succumbing to his injuries.

Officer David was initially listed in critical but stable condition post-shooting, while Officer Farmer was treated and discharged from the hospital the following day.

Despite being discharged on September 19, Officer David’s family revealed that she is expected to return to the hospital for significant surgery due to blindness in both eyes.

“Karissa is out of the hospital now and her care will be outpatient for at least several months to come,” her family penned on their GoFundMe page, set up to help with her sky-high medical bills.

“She has an upcoming surgery back in the hospital soon and various other specialist appointments scheduled. She is currently blind in both eyes and we ask for continued prayers for a miracle in that regard.”
