‘Best sports activities coach on planet works in Wigan – even Guardiola cannot match him’
Matt Peet might just be the best sports coach on the planet.
Who just happens to be working in one of the most maligned and poorly run sports in the world. In 99 games as Wigan Warriors boss, Peet has won a staggering seven trophies.
Wigan’s 9-2 Super League Grand Final win over Hull Kingston Rovers at Old Trafford on Saturday also saw Peet land all four trophies available to him this season – Super League, League Leaders’ Shield, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge. Even Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has never managed this.

Peet’s Rugby League team is now the greatest on the planet. And it will only be a matter of time before the 40-year-old coach from Wigan is being offered huge riches to go and work elsewhere.
Like Rugby Union, perhaps. Peet knows how to the get the best out of the talent at his disposal. No one is better at it than him.
So what a shame he knows little about football – or the England team. Because the FA could certainly do with finding someone boasting his coaching talents to lead the Three Lions.
Victory for Wigan meant they repeated the feat their 1994 squad achieved in winning every major honour over the course of a single campaign.
Bradford in 2003 and St Helens in 2006 both won all four trophies – albeit over the course of two seasons. But Peet’s side have forced their way into the conversation of which side is the best in the modern era.
