The police have now shared fresh CCTV images of the mother-of-six on the fateful morning, donning a pink Regatta Calderdale II jacket, which remains unaccounted for. In a bid to catch the culprits, Crimestoppers is offering a hefty £20k reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those behind her killing.
Appearing on BBC’s Crimewatch today (Oct 14), Anita’s daughter Gemma Cox made an emotional plea, speaking out for the first time since the tragedy, insisting that the perpetrators ‘need to face justice’.
Gemma Cox expressed her heartbreak: “We haven’t got our mum and our mum isn’t here to look after us anymore.”
She lamented the milestones her mother will miss: “My mum is going to miss out birthdays, the birth of her grandson and my brother getting married next year.”
Struggling to comprehend the brutality, she said: “We don’t understand how someone could brutally attack someone who is walking their dog.”
With determination, she added: “We need to find the person who done this to my mum. They need to face justice.”
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Connick also spoke out, expressing gratitude to those who have provided information and urging others with knowledge to come forward, saying: “I’d like to express my thanks to all those who have come forward with information so far and encourage anyone else who can help with our investigation to please contact police if you haven’t already done so.”
In a bid to piece together the events that led to the brutal assault, law enforcement officers have highlighted a particular individual of interest whom they’d like to interview: A potential witness remains unidentified and police are keen to trace a man seen on CCTV on the morning of the attack.
They have, however, made it clear that this individual isn’t considered a suspect but could nonetheless hold valuable insights: The man is not believed to be a suspect and police believe he may be able to assist with the inquiry.
