Reddit down as 1000’s hit with ‘bizarre’ message when accessing web site
Social media site Reddit is seemingly broken, as users are unable to access the web version of it.
Reports of issues with the forum started to hit Down Detector around 5am this morning, with nearly 2,000 complaints reached before 7am. And rather than being just “down” as sometimes happens, users are being hit with a message on the site that confirms it is more broken than not working.
It states: “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection failure.”

According to Google Gemini, that means: “The error message . . . indicates that a connection between services in a distributed system has failed or been closed early. This error is common in Spring Boot applications that use Java 11, especially in microservices architectures or when using reverse proxies.”
Users flocked to rival social media site Twitter/X to complain, with one posting: “Reddit sub forums down for anybody else? I can see http://reddit.com home page, but getting weird error everywhere else.”
And a second wrote: “Is reddit just broken or something? i was trying to look up some obscure thing and tried clicking like 4 reddit post links and they all took me to some weird error how am i supposed to find answers to my weirdly specific tech problems now.”
Strangely, for Reddit, no comment has been made about the issue by bosses, with its status website claiming that “all systems (are) operational” when they clearly aren’t.
The Daily Star has reached out to them for a comment.
