Pep Guardiola exhibits true colors when requested about changing into England’s subsequent boss

Pep Guardiola is reportedly contemplating extending his contract with the club despite rumours of the England job.

The Football Association (FA) is on the hunt for a long-term successor to Gareth Southgate, with temporary boss Lee Carsley returning to the U21s. Guardiola has surfaced as the prime candidate for FA executives.

Guardiola has guided Manchester City to four consecutive Premier League titles and is recognised as one of the most influential managers in football history. His current contract at the Etihad Stadium is due to expire at the end of this season.

This situation has caught the attention of England’s management, who have approached him about taking over the Three Lions once he departs from City. However, it seems that Guardiola is keeping his options open.

As per the Daily Telegraph, the Spanish manager is mulling over signing a 12-month extension to his contract with City. While City would prefer a longer commitment, they would be thrilled if he agrees to an additional 12 months, reports the Mirror.

Manchester City's Spanish manager Pep Guardiola kisses the Premier League trophy after the presentation ceremony following the English Premier League football match between Manchester City and West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, north west England, on May 19, 2024. Manchester City created English football history on Sunday, beating West Ham 3-1 to win an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title.
Pep Guardiola has won it all at Manchester City

Guardiola’s last contract extension was signed in November 2022, extending his tenure until 2025. If he decides to stay at City, it is anticipated to be for a shorter term. Although staying at City is a viable option, Guardiola is intrigued by the prospect of managing a national team.

Luckily for any national association keen on appointing him as their manager, Guardiola acknowledges that he will earn less than at the club level. Currently, there is no deadline for the Spaniard as he considers his next move.

The City boss might even fancy a break from the game, echoing his time-out after leaving Barca in 2012 for a New York sabbatical. But make no mistake, Guardiola’s still top dog on the FA’s wishlist until he says a firm ‘no thanks’.

“It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet. And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach. If I had decided I would say it… I don’t know either, anything can happen.”
