Groom shot lifeless in entrance of bride by ‘complete stranger’ outdoors marriage ceremony reception

A groom was tragically gunned down on his wedding day in front of his new bride after an argument with a “total stranger”.

Tyrek Burton, 37, was fatally shot outside his own wedding reception at Barber Park Events Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday, October 12.

Police were summoned to the scene around 8.50pm and found Tyrek in the car park with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, he tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Family members disclosed that Tyrek, a father to four girls, had briefly left the wedding venue to fetch something when he was followed by a man who accused him of cutting him off on the road. Witnesses reported the suspect confronted Tyrek, demanding to know who had overtaken him at a nearby stop sign.

After a brief argument, the man opened fire, killing Tyrek in front of his new wife.

“My brother didn’t know this man at all, they never met. He didn’t ask him what his name was. They never shook hands. This was a complete random stranger, and he shot him in cold blood,” Tyrek’s sister Brittany Burton said, reports the Mirror US.

“It was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life, and it turned into something tragic,” Brittany added.

The gunman is still at large following the shooting, with police on an active manhunt and investigations underway. No suspects have been identified, and detectives are working tirelessly to unravel the events that culminated in this appalling crime.

“See something, say something. It’s real simple,” Brittany said “There’s doorbell cameras out there matching the same description. Detectives are out there. I’m out there.”

The Burton family shared Tyrek had been with his wife for a decade and was a devoted stepfather to her two kids. They remember him as a man whose legacy will be defined by his love and unwavering commitment to his family.

A GoFundMe page, set up by Tyrek’s kin Keisha Satterfield, reveals the heartbreaking tale: “On Saturday October 12, 2024 my cousin married the love of his life, on one of the happiest days of his life to tragically be cut short due to road rage that ended in gun violence. He was a beloved husband, father of four beautiful girls, brother and friend, known for his generosity, and infectious smile.

“Unexpected losses can cause immense stress and pressure on families. Your donation will help cover expenses and provide support for Tyrek’s family during this difficult time. Please help us ensure that his family receives the care they need.”
